FORMAL NOTIFICATION OF DISTRICT ELECTIONS

A District nominating committee is responsible for selecting a slate of competent officers and members at large for
the next year. More specifically, the committee (1) reviews the qualifications for district officers and members at large,
(2) studies the participation and performance of last year’s officers and members at large, (3) makes suggestions for
each officer and member at large, matching skills to needs, and (4) personally contacts each nominee and secures an
agreement to serve.

The committee will submit its slate of candidates to the annual business meeting for election on
Thursday, November
2, 2017 at 7:00PM
. The location of the business meeting is Villa Rica High School. Eligible voters, as outlined in section
IV must be present at the meeting to cast their vote. Proper nomination and election procedures are outlined below.

Section I
All registered Scouters within the district are eligible to recommend nominees to the committee. Your participation in this
process is vital to our Districts success. You may nominate yourself to any one position.


Section II
All recommendations must be made in writing and received by the committee at least two weeks prior to the district's
annual business meeting, which is no later than Thursday October 1
9, 2017. Recommendations may be submitted
online via the nomination form or directly to a member of the nominating committee.  

Note that nominations will not be accepted from the floor at the time of election per National election procedures.


Section III
You may submit recommendations for the following positions.
  • District Chair
  • District Vice Chair
  • District Commissioner
  • Members-At-Large

These position roles and responsibilities are briefly described in section V and
via the positions link.


Section IV
The following Scouters are eligible to vote at the Annual Business Meeting:
  • Chartered organization representatives representing currently chartered units within the district.
  • Registered district members at large. These are members at large voted upon at the last annual business
    meeting of the district and any additional members added by majority vote at a regular meeting of the district
    committee during the current charter year.
  • Registered council members at large residing within the district.


Section V
BRIEF POSITION DESCRIPTIONS (click for detailed job descriptions)

District Chair
    An individual of character recognized in the community as outstanding because of achievements as a leader with
    recruiting and organizing ability that will inspire confidence and win support and cooperation for Scouting.
    This individual should be acceptable to the business leaders, the educators, and the religious leadership of the
    community.

District Vice Chair
    An individual of character recognized in the community as outstanding because of achievements as a leader; with
    recruiting and organizing ability that will inspire confidence and win support and cooperation for Scouting.
    Reporting to the District Chair and acting in his/her absence, this individual should be acceptable to the business
    leaders, the educators, and the religious leadership of the community.

District Commissioner
    An individual of character and standing in the community with organization, administrative, and leadership ability.
    This individual should be a person who can successfully work with the commissioner staff and other Scouters to
    strengthen the packs, troops, teams, and crews in the district.

District Members at Large
    Individuals of character and standing in the community who, because of interest, organization experience, ability,
    or general knowledge, may be available for service as a chair or member of one of the committees in the district
    or for service in some special capacity to the district.

    District members at large are voting members of the district committee. They are nominated by the district
    nominating committee and are duly elected by the district committee. They may be elected either at the last
    district annual meeting or during the interim at a regular duly called, monthly district committee meeting.
