Indian Springs District Committee Meeting Minutes
February 5, 2015
Meeting called to order at 7:00

New Business
  • Cubmaster and Committee recruiting training is coming up. This is a new Council event to prepare Packs for
    changes in recruiting and program. Set for April 30. Location TBD. Recruiting materials pickup is July 16.

Committee reports

  • Bi-annual assessments are continuing. Assessments have been sent to unit Key 3 for follow up discussions
    with Unit Commissioners.
  • Current issues with recharter (late submissions) causing issues for some with online access to tools
  • College of Commissioner Science set for February 28

  • No Report at this time

  • March will see Troop/Crew recruiting events. Information is posted on the District web site.
  • In 2016, Council will require a Spring Cub Scout Camp. IS is currently already planning.

  • Discussion of Cub Position Specific training and the calendar changes/additions. Per AAC, Cub training is
    top priority due to program changes beginning with new Cub year.
  • Goal for trained leaders in all programs is an increase of 5%.
  • Will be adding Merit Badge Counselor training

Camping/Outdoor Promotion
  • Report given on OA Winter Gathering Camp. Camp was a success with over 200 attendees.
  • OA is investigating a Dutch Oven gathering for October time frame. All will be invited.

  • Spring Camporee location is set for McIntosh on April 17 - 19
  • Fall Camporee is currently planned for Camp Thunder in Moline, GA (Flint River Council)
  • Carrol County Commissioners are currently discussing the possibility of eliminating usage fees for Scout
    groups in the District. The payback for this is in the form of service projects.
  • Awards Banquet discussions and nominations. Award nominations close February 7.
  • A request has been made that each units' Advancement Chair serve as part of the District Advancement
  • Spring Merit Badge clinic is set for March 21 at the University of West Georgia.

  • Calendar planning meeting scheduled for March 8
  • Scouting for Food is coming soon. Look to District and Council site for details

Vice Chair of Operations
  • Council has requested that each District Committee have a succession plan. Each position should plan to
    serve 2 years but a plan needs to be in place and to Council by April 24.
  • Friends of Scouting breakfast is February 10 at University of West GA.
